ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Delaware woman from Ellendale died after her Ford Bronco struck a tree in Milton when it was hit by an EMS vehicle—police said the Bronco missed a stop sign and the EMS driver suffered minor injuries while investigators continue looking into the fatal crash.  Delaware Online

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Summer vacation plans are underway as Avelo begins offering affordable flights from Wilmington Airport to destinations like Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Myrtle Beach and Orlando. Travelers must present a Real ID or approved alternative, and round-trip fares for the Fourth of July weekend start at $84 — flights run on set days through mid-November.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the St. Anthony’s Italian Festival started at 4 p.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church in Wilmington’s Little Italy to mark the church’s 100th anniversary with opera, dance, and new food trucks serving arancini and mini-doughnuts. Visitors are advised to park near Salesianum School and use shuttles—showers are expected until June 11 while the festival goes rain or shine until June 15.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Matt Meyer today nominated Judge Monica A. Horton to serve on the New Castle County Superior Court because of her long legal experience and dedication to public service. She will await confirmation by the Delaware State Senate+ her record in both criminal and civil cases has earned praise from her colleagues.  Deleware State Government
  • The Wilmington Neighborhood Conservancy Land Bank has transformed nearly 400 vacant properties since 2018 and received a $250,000 grant from Bank of America for its Lower Hilltop Equitable Housing and Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative; Councilwoman Maria Cabrera said Tuesday that the support is a seed of hope + city officials noted that affordable housing challenges remain in the community.  WDEL
  • After a 13-member city council vote failed by one vote to pass a rent stabilization measure that would have capped annual increases at 5%-the measure had drawn both support and opposition from local residents and landlords- local organizers will now pursue a referendum using a petition signed by at least 10% of voters to bypass the council's decision. The move comes as protesters and advocates demand stronger actions to control steep rent hikes that have pressured many Wilmington residents.  Spotlight Delaware
