BUSINESS NEWS

  • The Delaware Division of Small Business awarded EDGE grants to 10 small businesses at Bally’s Resort in Dover on June 4. The $650,000 funding will support ventures in STEM and entrepreneurship — helping companies expand services from mental health to real estate technology — and boost innovation statewide.  Delaware LIVE

CRIME NEWS

  • On June 4th, officers responded to a shooting in Manor Park where they found a 37-year-old man with a gunshot wound to his face inside a home and 31-year-old Kyle Schaal from Wilmington injured after a fight that escalated when he used a handgun—he later faced charges including attempted murder and firearm possession before being held at Howard Young Correctional Institution.  New Castle County Police Department
  • Wilmington Police responded to a shooting on Tuesday afternoon in the 1000 block of North Pine Street at about 2:33 p.m.—a 20-year-old male was taken in critical condition to a local hospital.  First State Update

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On May 8th, the DNA Life Sciences Conference was held at the Chase Center on the Riverfront in Wilmington where leaders from industry, academia and government discussed partnerships, skill training and the 65% growth in biotechnology companies. The event offered solutions to meet workforce needs and boost the economy — a strategy that Governor Meyer later stressed.  University of Delaware

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Kuumba Academy used puppets in a classroom project led by teaching artist Kate Testa to boost academic skills and emotional growth—an effort that fits within Delaware’s push to include arts in learning. The project showed that creative learning can connect subjects like storytelling and real-world issues such as water pollution.  WHYY
  • University of Delaware students organized HenHacks 2025 on June 5th, drawing nearly 500 participants from 53 schools and featuring projects in AI and cybersecurity—demonstrating the event's strong growth over its three-year history.  University of Delaware

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Smoke from Canadian wildfires is drifting south and has prompted air quality advisories in several Northeast states—Delaware’s index stays in the mid-40s now, after forecasts showed it spiked to 80 on June 5 and will drop to about 58 later today.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A federal judge issued a preliminary injunction today to restore funding for AmeriCorps programs after Attorney General Kathy Jennings and a coalition of 23 states + D.C. sued to block cuts that threatened over $1 million in grants to Delaware community organizations, ensuring these key services continue.  Deleware State Government
