- ➤ The Wilmington Neighborhood Conservancy Land Bank received a $250,000 grant from Bank of America to revitalize the Hilltop section. The grant will help finish the rehab on five properties & support transforming vacant houses into affordable homes. Delaware Public Media
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On June 3 at about 7:55 p.m., the Wilmington Fire Department responded to the 1300 block of Oak Street after reports of smoke from a row house and found that all residents had evacuated while firefighters battled a blaze that damaged the second floor and triggered concealed attic flames causing minor smoke damage to neighboring homes — the cause remains under investigation. - ➤ Ten small Delaware businesses were awarded EDGE grants totaling $750,000—five STEM businesses getting $100,000 each and five Entrepreneur companies getting $50,000 each—after 139 applications were submitted. - ➤ New Castle County Police issued a Gold Alert for 47-year-old Steven Lloyd, a black male roughly 6'2" and 200 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair who was last seen at 10:10 p.m. on June 4 leaving his home in the Sunny Bend block in Newark in a 2017 silver Ford Fusion with Delaware registration PC517560 — officers say his whereabouts remain unknown and they fear for his safety. - ➤ The University of Delaware invites nominations for the Karl W. Böer Medals to honor extraordinary work in solar, wind, and renewable energy, awarding $100,000 for a renowned leader and $25,000 for a mid-career researcher—nominations are due by Aug. 1. University of Delaware

- ➤ Advocates for open government said Governor Meyer’s transparency efforts have been modest nearly six months into his term. The governor supported creating an inspector general office—approved by the Senate and now pending in the House—while lawmakers propose further reforms on public records exemptions and state oversight. - ➤ Delaware lawmakers paused funding for the Diamond State Hospital Cost Review Board until its ongoing lawsuit is resolved—Rep. Kim Williams said the move is meant to protect taxpayer money. - ➤ New ramps from I-95 south to Route 896 in Newark opened on June 4 after two years of construction to ease merging traffic and reduce accidents by giving drivers an earlier exit—those missing the exit are directed to the Newark Toll Plaza. The project also introduces an overnight traffic pattern change near bridge rehabilitation work where lanes merge into one before splitting again. Delaware Online
- ➤ The Delaware Department of Agriculture is accepting proposals for the 2025 Specialty Crop Block Grant Program that will provide up to $340,000 to support innovative projects in specialty crops—applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on June 24 with eligible groups including agricultural producers, nonprofit organizations, government entities, and educational institutions.
