COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Andrea Miller, founder of A&Y Birthday Blessings, helps Delaware children in need celebrate birthdays with gifts and celebrations that create lasting memories. The nonprofit supports families by providing opportunities for a joyful birthday experience.  DETV
  • Wilmington voters chose the mural titled (Birds) for Concord Avenue and Miller Road, and Councilman James Spadola said the artwork will expand from the current display once funding and approvals are secured to celebrate the city’s 250th anniversary.  WDEL
  • Residents can explore a range of local events this weekend, including the First Friday Art Loop in Wilmington, the Pride Festival, Pizza Week kickoff, and the start of St. Anthony’s Italian Festival. Attendees will enjoy art, food & culture across Delaware.  DETV

  • This weekend, a new touring production of The Music Man will play at the Playhouse on Rodney Square from June 5 — June 7; the six-time Tony Award-winning musical promises vibrant sets, costumes, and lighting to bring Broadway magic to Wilmington.  6abc
  • Former first lady Jill Biden announced she will release her memoir View from the East Wing today, sharing her journey from classroom teacher to White House leader + the book aims to provide personal insights into her long service in public life.  Delaware Online
  • The Delaware Public Archives is hosting June’s First Saturday Program, Not Today, PA, on Saturday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. The program will explore Delaware’s early separation from Pennsylvania and the origins of its annual Separation Day celebration.  Deleware State Government

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials are in talks with Springboard Delaware about a $1.5 million tiny home village for homeless residents, with potential sites on Garasches Lane + near Christina Park, but residents in Southbridge and Eastside worry it will strain local resources if state funding does not cover ongoing costs.  Spotlight Delaware
  • New Castle County Libraries will temporarily alter hours this summer after reviewing branch usage patterns. All libraries will close on Sundays in July and August and Bear, Hockessin, and Kirkwood will operate six days a week while independent branches may adjust schedules (check with your branch).  WDEL

  • In a recent Teen Summit episode, host Dr. Ashanda led a panel discussing social media's effects on teen mental health including challenges like depression, anxiety, and pressures of online comparison, and mentioning local resources (Sean’s House for 14-24 year olds) to build healthier digital habits.  DETV

  • Salesianum's boys lacrosse team won the 2026 DIAA State Championship after defeating the Cape Henlopen Vikings 15-5; the Sallies built an early lead and kept the Vikings scoreless in the third quarter (photos by Dave Reeder).  Delaware LIVE
