- ➤ Wilmington Police arrested 20-year-old Quadre Wright and 18-year-old Amir Morris—who are accused of first-degree murder, robbery and firearm offenses—after a fatal shooting on March 28 on Bradford Street left 24-year-old Santee Renwick dead. First State Update
- ➤ Wilmington Police are investigating two shooting incidents—one on May 29 at 11:06 p.m. on West 7th Street where a 56-year-old man died and a 19-year-old man was injured, and one on May 23 near West 23rd and Washington Streets where a 24-year-old man died and a 25-year-old man was injured—with no suspects or motive released. - ➤ A mechanical issue at the Delaware City Refinery led to a continuous chemical leak starting Sunday night, with sulfur dioxide levels increasing from 500 to 1,450 pounds per hour as repairs are underway—experts warn that the leak may cause breathing difficulties, especially for those with asthma. - ➤ Mayor John Carney signed the fiscal year 2026 budget ordinance today, which keeps property taxes revenue-neutral and allocates funds to public safety, affordable housing, infrastructure, and neighborhood revitalization. The plan sets aside $2 million for housing, $2.5 million for neighborhood projects, and $4 million for launching a municipal ambulance service + supporting key community programs. Delaware LIVE
- ➤ New Castle County Council approved a resolution to change the council president role from an elected position to an internally chosen one that will begin in 2032, aligning the process with Kent & Sussex counties—voting was 11 to 2.
