  • Elsmere Police + Fire rescued a trapped kitten from under a squad car after repeated meows were heard during shifts; a master corporal will adopt the small feline now named Felony.  WDEL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rockwood Museum (just north of Wilmington) presents a new 'We the People' exhibit that pairs contemporary artworks from five regional artists with its historic collection through Labor Day. The display invites visitors to explore diverse visions of America’s past, identity and inclusion at 4651 Washington Street Extension.  WHYY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware students' reading & math scores improved since COVID but remain below pre-pandemic levels, according to the 2026 Education Scorecard. Districts including Appoquinimink, Brandywine, Seaford & Woodbridge show progress while educators say more work is needed.  Spotlight Delaware
  • On May 28, 294 seniors from St. Georges Technical High School held their commencement at the Bob Carpenter Center, with family, faculty & guests attending a ceremony that featured speeches by Principal Justin Comegys and other educators.  Delaware Online
  • Howard High School of Technology hosted a graduation ceremony for 195 seniors on May 28 at the Bob Carpenter Center. Families, faculty & administrators joined the event to honor the graduates.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Delaware City Refining spilled oil into the Delaware River on May 26 during a transfer; the company promptly contained the leak and began cleanup, and DNREC monitors the release (which involves reformates) with no immediate impacts reported.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Attorney General Kathy Jennings celebrated the Delaware Supreme Court's ruling on May 26 that upheld state law letting Renewable Redevelopment LLC & an offshore wind project build an electrical substation to boost clean energy and help lower power bills, a step clearing a major hurdle for the state's energy plan.  Deleware State Government
  • Delawareans gathered to remember former Mayor Mike Purzycki at a public visitation held May 27 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront, reflecting on his legacy.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware awarded more than $700,000 in Delaware Grocery Initiative grants to nonprofits and government agencies fighting food deserts, providing support for equipment, supplies, and operations in Kent, Sussex, and New Castle counties through the Delaware Division of Small Business today.  WDEL
