ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Delaware State Police are investigating a motorcycle crash that shut down Roth Bridge on Monday, May 26th at 3:30 p.m.; a 59-year-old rider with chest and lower body injuries was flown by helicopter to Christiana Hospital—causing over half an hour of delays on northbound Route 1 during Memorial Day weekend travel.  WDEL

CRIME NEWS

  • Delaware State Police are looking for two suspects after armed robbers forced an employee to return inside Burger King at Glendale Plaza on Route 40 in Bear on May 25—troopers said the employee was unharmed— as the suspects fled on foot.  WDEL
  • A New York man named Rakeshkumar Patel pleaded guilty to federal elder fraud charges that bilked victims, including local seniors, of over $2.1 million by posing as federal agents to convince them to convert their savings into cash or gold, and he was arrested near Millsboro in May 2024; he now faces more than five years in federal prison.  First State Update

  • The Delaware Department of Justice's Investor Protection Unit warns investors to use caution when using financial data aggregators—services that combine banking, investment, and mortgage details. Officials advise users to read all agreements, check security measures, and revoke access when the service is no longer needed.  Delaware LIVE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Parents in Delaware need to know that curfew laws differ by town this summer — Bethany Beach restricts teens under 18 to public spaces from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., while Delaware City, Dover, Harrington, Milford, New Castle, Rehoboth Beach and Wilmington set earlier limits — and many laws allow exceptions for minors with a guardian’s note.  Delaware Online
  • Delaware officials are working to begin a regulated recreational marijuana market more than two years after legalization while some areas continue to ban cannabis businesses. Wilmington approved zoning restrictions—setting a 300-foot buffer for stores—and state leaders plan to issue 125 licenses as stores are expected to open as early as August.  WHYY
  • Delaware Justice Gary Traynor will lead a task force of legal experts to review if law students can enter the legal field without taking the traditional bar exam—he will analyze programs in other states and report recommendations by June 2026 while the state prepares to launch the Next Gen bar exam in 2028.  Delaware Public Media

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware officials note COVID cases fell to just over 5,200 this year, yet CDC testing in early May detected a new variant, NB.1.8.1, linked to cases in China & airports in California & New York-New Jersey metro area & Virginia & Washington. The CDC says current vaccines protect against severe illness and will update booster guidance as ongoing studies continue.  Delaware Online
