- ➤ On May 21, 2025 at about 8:25 a.m., patrol units in New Castle responded to an incident in Garfield Park where a 75-year-old crossing guard was threatened and assaulted while directing traffic—video surveillance led to the arrest of 25-year-old Darjuan Saleem-Connor from Wilmington, who was charged with terroristic threatening, offensive touching, menacing and failure to obey an authorized person directing traffic and later released on $700 unsecured bail. - ➤ Today, the Grand Opera House in Wilmington hosts Amazing Taiwan: An Evening of Dance by the Chinese American Community Center at 7 p.m. for $47—marking the troupe's first Delaware show in nearly 15 years while the region also sees equestrian contests in Devon and farewell performances by Barry Manilow in Atlantic City. - ➤ House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown said on Wednesday that she supports raising income tax brackets — but she did not want to rush the plan so lawmakers can work out details and avoid unintended impacts on business. - ➤ On May 22, the Senate passed a bill to create an Inspector General's Office after 18 years of reintroductions—this office will look into waste, fraud and misuse of taxpayer money while sharing duties with the Department of Justice and Auditor of Accounts. The inspector general will be chosen by a panel for the governor's review, confirmed by the State Senate and serve a 5-year term, and the measure carries a $1.4 million annual cost.
