CRIME NEWS

  • Police responded Tuesday evening just after 7:30 to a reported stabbing at the 200 block of East Hampstead Road in Middletown where a 27-year-old male with a stab wound to the torso was airlifted by Delaware State Police Aviation’s Trooper 4 to Christiana Hospital—authorities have not released further details about the victim or additional injuries.  First State Update
  • New Castle County Division of Police in Wilmington issued a Gold Alert for 19-year-old Christopher Spano, Jr. after he was last seen leaving his home on the 100 block of North Road at 3:00 p.m. on May 21—he is described as white, 5'7" tall and 139 pounds, wearing a black t-shirt, green shorts, and an Eagles lanyard with keys attached, and his whereabouts remain unknown.  New Castle County Police Department
  • Wilmington Police arrested a 39-year-old Claymont man last week after he fired a loaded 9mm handgun near a crash on North Market Street — officers said he had been involved in a vehicle collision before discharging the weapon and now faces multiple firearm and reckless charges.  First State Update

  • Red Knot Fest — an event that will spotlight horseshoe crabs and migratory shorebirds — is scheduled for May 31 from noon to 4 p.m. at Slaughter Beach Pavilion, 356 Bay Ave.  Bay to Bay News
  • DNREC announced that record harvests of 800 wild turkeys and 18,823 white-tailed deer marked the 2024 to 2025 hunting season, a historic first for Delaware. Officials said the totals achieved on public and private lands underscored effective wildlife management and conservation efforts.  Deleware State Government

  • The University of Delaware’s STAR Campus began its residential phase with a $71 million project by Buccini Pollin Group that broke ground on May 8 and will offer 229 market-rate apartments connected by a glass skybridge—bringing new amenities like a pool, pickleball court, and fitness center to help complete the community.  University of Delaware
