  • The 2026 Latino Summit gathered community leaders, businesses, educators, nonprofits, and government groups on May 19 at Chase Center on the Riverfront to empower Delaware’s growing Latino community with workshops, networking, and resource sharing (theme: 'Juntos Somos Más Fuertes').  Delaware LIVE

  • Travelers can now book flights to 11 warm destinations from Wilmington Airport as Avelo Airlines extends its schedule until Jan. 5. The airline offers up to 75% off base fares for select routes (using promo code TRYAVELO) to help those affected by the Spirit shutdown.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hagley Museum launches its America 250 celebration this Memorial Day weekend at 200 Hagley Creek Road, with guided tours, cannon firings, fishing and hands-on exhibits — events continue through summer, and free admission is offered to military members, veterans and retirees.  Delaware LIVE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University senior Joey Spagnolo learned that using a pompom at William Penn High School on May 20 boosted student engagement and his authentic teaching style, and he will bring this joy into graduate studies at Teachers College (Columbia).  University of Delaware
  • Antonia Vázquez, UD's youngest graduate — who earned a 4.0 in finance — completed her degree on May 20 following accelerated homeschooling. She will return in the fall through UD’s 4+1 program for a master's after starting on campus at 15.  University of Delaware
  • Kaitlyn Hand, a recent University of Delaware teacher education graduate with a 4.0 GPA, is beginning her teaching career in local classrooms after student teaching in Camden and Newark. She aims to honor the educators who inspired her and give back to her community.  University of Delaware
  • UD’s Class of 2026 will soon celebrate Commencement as they prepare to launch into diverse careers, graduate programs, and community roles. The graduates have accepted positions in education, healthcare, environmental control and public policy with opportunities in Delaware and beyond.  University of Delaware

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delaware DNREC today revised bluefish fishing regulations for 2026 and 2027, increasing the daily possession limit to five for private vessel anglers and to seven for for-hire vessel anglers while ensuring compliance with regional management plans and reflecting improved stock assessments.  Deleware State Government
  • Mark Edelson, co-founder of Iron Hill Brewery, recounted his thoughts on the passing of former mayor and Wilmington Riverfront developer Mike Purzycki — a leader recognized for his work on community projects.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • State leaders and trauma care professionals marked 30 years of the Delaware Trauma System of Care at Legislative Hall Tuesday. The trauma system (established in 1996) helped reduce mortality rates and continues to coordinate emergency care in hospitals statewide.  Deleware State Government

  • Salesianum won the 2025 DIAA Lacrosse Tournament with a 12-9 victory over Cape Henlopen, extending its record to 15 state titles. Coach Bob Healy led the team to 14 championships since 2007.  Delaware Online
