CRIME NEWS

  • Christopher Keough, a 52-year-old man from Warwick, Rhode Island, was arrested in Delaware after he was found passed out behind the wheel on I-95 near Salem Church Road at 1:30 a.m. on May 11th + police found fentanyl, crack cocaine, cocaine, alprazolam pills and paraphernalia in his vehicle + he now faces multiple drug charges and DUI while held at Howard Young Correctional Institution on an $85,125 secured bond.  WDEL
  • On May 4, officers responded to an armed robbery on Simonds Drive and Pilgrim Road in the Simonds Gardens neighborhood and arrested 18-year-old I’yon Williams for carrying a stolen handgun, while 22-year-old Ian Berbick was apprehended after a foot pursuit and 19-year-old Gregory Williams later turned himself in after surveillance footage linked him to the robbery.  New Castle County Police Department

  • Delaware singer Christine Havrilla, frontwoman for Christine Havrilla and Gypsy Fuzz, died on May 14 after battling cancer and financial hardship—a benefit concert at the Milton Theatre on May 18 will raise funds for her wife, Brooke.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • US Wind proposed on May 14 a $20 million plan to support commercial fishing in Maryland and Delaware—funding will support harbor maintenance, gear development, and compensation for revenue impacts from offshore wind projects. Memoranda of understanding with state environmental agencies address local concerns over its West Ocean City Harbor footprint.  Delaware Online

  • Laura Carlson has been named interim UD president and will begin on July 1 as Dennis Assanis will step down on June 30. The Board of Trustees will begin the search for a permanent president during the next academic year.  University of Delaware
