  • Mary Campbell Center on Weldin Road celebrated its 50th anniversary on May 7. The center hosted a gathering with staff, residents, and community supporters while former Philadelphia Eagles Coach Dick Vermeil sent a video message and founder Marcia Raniere and chairman Justin Dunn honored its legacy.  WDEL

  • On Tuesday evening, Governor Matt Meyer and the Division of Small Business announced that nine small businesses received EDGE 2.0 awards totaling $1.15M at Delaware Technical Community College’s Owen Campus in Georgetown (Entrepreneur and STEM).  Deleware State Government

  • Spotlight Delaware was named 2025 News Organization of the Year by the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association after winning multiple regional journalism awards this month (including three first-place honors in a state contest).  Spotlight Delaware

  • More than 400 local leaders met at The Queen in Wilmington for the Opportunity LIVES Here summit to explore tech-driven growth along the Three Rivers Corridor. Sand Technologies founder announced he will reincorporate his Physical AI firm while Senator Brown plans Blockchain task force hearings to boost innovation statewide.  WDEL

  • DNREC's Aquatic Resources Education Center is launching free family fishing and aquatic discovery programs this summer, including Take A Kid Fishing! (TAKF!) starting Friday, May 15 at Silver Lake in Dover, Small Fry Adventures for children ages 4 to 7, and Life in the Bay events at Woodland Beach near Smyrna.  Deleware State Government

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Matt Meyer announced today that Delaware will sell $446 million in bonds after receiving top AAA ratings, with competitive bids awarding Morgan Stanley (3.41% for 20 years) and Bank of America (3.52% for debt payoffs) to fund public school, university, and Wilmington Custom House projects.  Deleware State Government

HEALTH NEWS

  • UDPT researchers at Independence Prosthetics-Orthotics tested a new comorbidity screening during prosthetic appointments that checks for issues like depression, neuropathy, and reduced blood flow. The study, published May 12, found the brief screenings added little extra time and encouraged patients to seek follow-up care.  University of Delaware

  • The Wilmington Grand Prix returns this spring to downtown Wilmington, featuring cycling races + family-friendly community events during race weekend. It will bring renewed energy to the local scene.  DETV
  • The NASCAR All-Star Race will take place on May 17 at Dover Motor Speedway with a new three-segment format that features inversion rules, following practice sessions on Friday and qualifying events on Saturday — fans will also have many race-day fan activities along the speedway.  Delaware LIVE
