COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Three families were honored on April 16 at the Delaware Agricultural Museum for their Century Farms. The awards celebrated farms in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties that have been kept in the same families for over 100 years.  Delaware Online
  • The International WeLoveU Foundation held a tree-planting day at Bellevue State Park on Sunday, May 10, where dozens of trees were planted to boost local green space.  Delaware Online
  • Several Memorial Day events honoring fallen service members occur statewide, including Newark’s parade at the University of Delaware’s Green on May 17, a Fenwick Island service on May 22, ceremonies in Milford, Rehoboth, Bethany and Middletown on May 25, and Wilmington’s historic parade on May 30.  Delaware Online

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant reopened its Riverfront location on Sunday, May 10 in Wilmington — the second of five planned reopenings after a September bankruptcy closure — and celebrated with the debut of its new East Coast juicy IPA On Deck.  6abc

CULTURE NEWS

  • Winterthur Museum is skipping its traditional Point-to-Point race for Field & Fête, a garden party featuring live music, a luxury car parade and upscale food & drinks to mark its 75th anniversary. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on May 16 at Winterthur with a rain date of May 17.  Delaware Online

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Water snakes are common in Delaware and are often mistaken for venomous copperheads although they are nonvenomous. Local experts say residents should view these snakes as a signal of a thriving ecosystem + a sign of healthy local wildlife.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington officials clarified that trimming trees is handled by the city, Delmarva Power and Light, or property owners - the city only removes trees in parks if they are diseased or pose a danger. An understaffed forestry team and a four-year trim cycle by the power company slow response times for safe maintenance.  Delaware Online
  • Four Dover Air Force Base airmen were awarded the Bronze Star Medal for heroic actions that led to the safe evacuation of troops during the 12 Day War at Al Udeid Air Base in June 2025, and they were honored at a Wing Commander's Call with their families + peers present.  Bay to Bay News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Delaware basketball fans can vote now for the best boys basketball player among local stars, including high school heroes and NBA talents. The poll, launched today, features figures like Dexter Boney (the first sophomore to earn first-team All-State) and others.  Delaware Online
  • Last Friday, local tennis pros and youth gathered on Market Street at Rodney Square for the 38th Tennis in the Streets event. The City worked with local clubs (Tennis Rocks, Rodney Street Tennis and Tutoring, among others) to offer free lessons, snacks, and a DJ for a summer kickoff.  WDEL
