CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A federal grand jury indicted 48-year-old Anthony Fields on April 10th for a carjacking and two gunpoint robberies in Middletown—including a restaurant robbery on January 25th and a gas station robbery on January 30th—and he turned himself in on February 2nd while remaining in federal custody. - ➤ New Castle County police are investigating an overnight shooting at Liberty Square Apartments+in Ogletown after receiving reports of shots fired around 3:45 a.m. on May 5; officers treated a 32+year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg and examined vehicles struck by gunfire. WDEL

- ➤ The Mezzanine Gallery in Wilmington has opened a mixed-media exhibit by artist Shefon N. Taylor that explores memory and cultural identity. The show, titled 'The Fragment Holds More Than the Whole,' runs through May 30 and uses found imagery and tracing paper to ask viewers to think about what is missing — a fresh look at how we remember history. - ➤ University of Delaware President Dennis Assanis—who has led UD since 2016—announced he will step down effective June 30 and will preside over commencement on May 24. WDEL
- ➤ Students from the Charter School of Wilmington won the 15th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition on April 28 in Washington, D.C. — they received a $100K prize for their smart bandage that monitors wound healing and helps ease local healthcare challenges. Delaware LIVE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ DelDOT shifted lanes on I-95 near the salt barn south of the I-295/Route 141 interchange when it closed the ramp from I-95 Northbound to Route 141 Southbound at 5 p.m. Friday. Lanes will open slowly on Saturday — two lanes by 5 a.m., three by 8 a.m., and the full pattern by 10 a.m. — with the new setup set to last until August. WDEL
- ➤ Delaware lawmakers returned from recess and held Monday hearings in Dover to discuss bills on power grid transparency, changes to tax rates, and proposals to track federal investigation requests. Additional meetings include Sussex County’s budget workshop Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in Georgetown, New Castle County’s budget hearing Thursday at 2 p.m. in Wilmington and a Wilmington Land Bank session on mansion renovations Wednesday at 6 p.m.—all open to public participation online.
