  • On May 4, residents braved rain to attend the 47th Annual Winterthur Point to Point at Winterthur in Delaware—participants of all ages enjoyed a day of racing and fun.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington City Council is concerned over more than $2.3 million spent on fixing the old Gibraltar mansion in the upscale Highlands neighborhood. Councilwoman Shané Darby asked for a public hearing on May 7—where officials will explain plans for more repairs and fundraising.  Spotlight Delaware
  • Wilmington Mayor John Carney has formed a task force on homelessness by appointing members from housing groups, social services, public safety and local government who will meet tomorrow, May 6, to plan sustainable solutions. The panel is led by Claire DeMatteis, who has extensive government experience + the group is expected to complete its report in 180 days.  WDEL
  • Travelers are told that TSA banned portable chargers and power banks with lithium batteries from checked bags — a rule aimed at preventing fire hazards — ahead of the May 7 Real ID deadline. Delaware drivers must bring required documents — such as a birth certificate, passport, or Social Security card — to a DMV office for a $20 fee to obtain a Real ID.  Delaware Online

  • Tick season is here in Delaware as state tick experts say that warmer, more humid weather raises the risk of bites and diseases like Lyme — DNREC is tracking tick populations at local parks and advises residents to wear long clothing, use tick spray, and check for ticks after outdoor activities.  Delaware Online

  • Winterthur Horticulturist Collin Hadsell shows a Koi pond and explains tips on how to add and care for water features in home gardens (helping locals bring nature home).  Delaware Online
