  • Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is partnering with Diamond State Financial Group to host Pong For A Cure— a fundraiser with a pong tournament, live music, silent auction, and food vendors— at Hockessin PAL on Saturday, May 2 from 2 to 8 p.m. Proceeds will support breast cancer education and screening.  Delaware LIVE

  • Newark Greenhouse Gastropub group is taking over three local restaurants; two will be rebranded while the third keeps its name with a refreshed look & new plants added.  Delaware Online
  • The Delaware Division of Small Business is celebrating National Small Business Month and Small Business Week (May 3-9) with a virtual bootcamp, summit, creative lab session, and a downtown Milford tour with Governor Meyer, offering resources to support nearly 29,000 local small businesses.  Deleware State Government
  • Bill Vernon was named president of Draper Media effective May 1 after serving as vice president since December 2024. He will now lead the company’s seven television properties and 12 radio stations in Delaware and Maryland.  WDEL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Delaware Division of the Arts announced that Deputy Director Kristin Pleasanton, known for launching key programs (the Delaware Writer’s Retreat and Delaware Arts Summit), will retire on June 1 after 33 years of service supporting the state's creative community.  Deleware State Government

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delaware’s labor force participation rate fell to 59.1 percent in March based on data since 1976, showing that fewer residents were working or looking for work.  Bay to Bay News

  • Dr. Valerie Staradub, breast surgery chief at ChristianaCare, has been appointed to the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition Board of Trustees to advance statewide breast cancer education and advocacy. She brings 20+ years of specialized experience to her community role.  Delaware LIVE
  • Following a Feb. 8 announcement that Delaware had its first Powassan virus case, state agencies warned residents of a potentially fatal tick-borne illness as warmer weather boosts outdoor activity. Officials advise using tick repellent + checking for ticks when outdoors.  Bay to Bay News

  • Wilmington officials are moving forward to build 30 affordable townhomes on the former Elbert-Palmer school site in Southbridge, though final sale prices remain uncertain due to subsidy and contractor factors (each unit is 1,500 sqft with three bedrooms planned) and local housing counseling will help residents prepare to buy.  Spotlight Delaware
