CULTURE NEWS

  • Eleven Delaware concerts are planned for May — starting with Micky Dolenz’s solo show today at The Grand in Wilmington at 8 p.m. and including acts like Gillian Welch with David Rawlings, Jon Anderson’s performance on May 7, and free shows in Rehoboth and downtown to offer local music fans many live options — all events meant to celebrate Delaware’s spring music scene.  Delaware Online
  • Reginald Ballard, known as Bruh Man from the 90s sitcom Martin, will headline Saturday Night Jokes at Studio 1 at The Grand in Wilmington at 8 p.m. May 3 — his show comes as fans recall his famous window entry and LeBron James paying tribute on a sneaker.  Delaware Online

  • Following his death in December 2024, Delaware State Police aviator Dennis Kelly from Wilmington will have his name added to memorials in Delaware and Washington, D.C.—a tribute coming 40 years after his fatal crash.  Bay to Bay News
  • Governor Matt Meyer signed Executive Order #9 today, creating the Office of Gun Violence Prevention and Community Safety under the Department of Safety and Homeland Security— it will coordinate state and local programs, share data, and work with community groups to reduce gun-related injuries and deaths.  Deleware State Government
  • Lawmakers met on Wednesday to form a port oversight task force after Gov. Meyer objected to its creation, and high-profile officials including Wilmington Mayor John Carney and Sen. Darius Brown criticized the absence of the governor’s cabinet. Legislators questioned the permits and funding for the planned $635 million container terminal in Edgemoor — details that will shape the state's port expansion strategy.  Spotlight Delaware
  • Gov. Matt Meyer said he will eliminate the electric vehicle mandate that former Gov. Carney put in place, allowing Delaware car dealerships to choose what vehicles they sell—he did not specify how but stressed that consumers will have freedom.
