CULTURE NEWS

  • America250 and Freedom250 are marking America’s 250th with a series of events across Delaware through 2026, including Dover Days Fireworks today at 5 p.m. on The Green and Dover During the Revolution at Delaware Public Archives on Saturday, May 2.  Delaware Online
  • The Wilmington-based emo tribute band Through Being Cool will perform at The Grand Opera House today at 8 p.m.—tickets cost $18.60.  WHYY
  • Aries Spears, a veteran comedian, will perform at The Grand in Wilmington today at 8 p.m. with tickets priced from $55 to $99.  Delaware Online
  • ShadFest celebrates the American shad return at Brandywine Park with environmental education and family-friendly activities. The free event starts at 11 a.m. on Sunday and features food vendors + fishing lessons for kids.  WDEL

ECONOMY NEWS

  • AAA said Delaware gas prices jumped nearly 30 cents in one week, reaching an average of $4.16, the highest in four years, while national prices increased 27 cents to $4.30 amid high crude oil costs.  Delaware Online

  • UD Library, Museums and Press and Dawes were honored when the Association of College and Research Libraries named Dawes Academic/Research Librarian of the Year + awarded the team Excellence in Academic Libraries Award, underscoring their commitment to innovative learning and student-focused services.  University of Delaware

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Federal and state regulators investigated a leak of ethylene oxide on April 14 at Croda Inc.'s industrial site near the Delaware Memorial Bridge, and air monitoring showed no detectable levels beyond the facility; Croda said its automated deluge system (a backup safety measure) worked and there were no injuries.  Spotlight Delaware

  • The Delaware Division of the Public Advocate noted that electric supply, transmission & distribution rates have risen significantly since 2005. Delmarva Power increased infrastructure spending by 73% since 2021, which may lead to higher costs for customers.  Bay to Bay News
  • DNREC revised the 2026-2027 fishing rules for black sea bass so that anglers face the same limits in state and federal waters when the season opens today. The new rules drop the minimum size to 12.5 inches, remove a mid-season closure, and align with regional management plans.  Deleware State Government

HEALTH NEWS

  • At a Newark health summit, experts said a proposed medical school could boost local care despite housing shortages limiting doctor recruitment; Gov. Matt Meyer plans to repurpose part of a federal grant ($157 million) to start the program.  Spotlight Delaware

  • Delaware Burger Battle 2026 returns to Rockford Park on Aug. 29 with tickets available at 6 p.m. June 1 — tickets sold out in eight hours last year. The charity event will donate all proceeds to support Delaware food charities.  Delaware Online
