- ➤ Holloway Terrace Fire Company clarified that the individual featured in a recent social media post is no longer a volunteer since 2022, and fire chief Randy Roberts said online criticism has eased (the company does not support the earlier remarks). Delaware Online
- ➤ Hockessin native Andrew Kaser was honored as Delaware Eagle Scout of the Year by the Sons of the American Revolution during its Youth Awards Dinner, receiving a commemorative medal & $1,000 for his leadership and service. - ➤ Delaware’s Public Education Funding Commission finished two years of study and voted to send a new school funding formula to lawmakers, with changes to take effect in July 2027. - ➤ A young gray seal was found on a dock on the St. Jones River near Dover on April 27 and was taken by the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute for care. The animal, named Franklin Gothic, is set for further treatment at a New York marine rescue facility. Delaware Online
- ➤ Delaware’s annual open burning ban will begin tomorrow, May 1, to safeguard air quality through Sept. 30 — while campfires, cooking fires and ceremonial bonfires using firewood, charcoal, propane or natural gas remain allowed. Deleware State Government
