- ➤ A new multi-use facility is under construction at 3901 N. Market St. in Wilmington, and the project began on April 23rd. The site will offer a library, maker spaces — a wellness area and other amenities for the community. Delaware Online

- ➤ Firefighters battled a three-alarm wind driven fire that heavily damaged a large home in North Star on April 27; the State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and two firefighters suffered minor injuries. WDEL
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Wilmington Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Monday morning at 1:34 a.m. on the 700 block of East 10th Street—where a 39-year-old male victim sustained gunshot wounds and was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. First State Update

- ➤ The Bridge Art Gallery opened on Market St. in Wilmington on February 27th and now showcases art from Delaware and other states—featuring work by local and national artists. Delaware Online

- ➤ Delaware state officials are holding several public meetings this week on road safety, environmental permits and Port expansion—each event is open to the public. Tuesday meetings include a bike and pedestrian workshop at Georgetown Public Library from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and a virtual environmental session in New Castle from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., while Wednesday events in Dover and New Castle run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. respectively. - ➤ The mayor of Elsmere abruptly resigned during a council meeting on April 24 + a new mayor has been appointed. Delaware Online
- ➤ Delaware state government is holding several public meetings this week on housing challenges, bike lane improvements, environmental permits, and port oversight. Today's schedules include a Wilmington housing summit at the Carvel State Office Building starting at 5:30 p.m. and a Georgetown bike workshop at the public library—future meetings in Dover and New Castle will address construction funding and port expansion. - ➤ Federal funding cuts forced Delaware nonprofits to lay off staff and close offices, and Church World Service in Georgetown will close on May 9—this may leave unaccompanied children without legal aid in immigration court.
