ECONOMY NEWS

  • Siemens Energy, working for DNREC, warned that building new data centers could spike Delaware's wholesale electricity prices by 80% if energy demand nearly doubles by 2029 (the report noted prices would rise statewide even with fewer centers). Without added generation or self-supplied power, customers may face higher bills.  Spotlight Delaware

  • Mariah Calagione, co-founder of Dogfish Head (and former UD trustee), will deliver the 2026 commencement address on Saturday, May 23 at 9:15 a.m. in Delaware Stadium in Newark; the ceremony is livestreamed for around 4,000 graduates and their guests.  University of Delaware

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • UD doctoral student TreVaughn Ellis will use new diving gear obtained with a Zale Parry Scholarship to study seagrass microbiomes in Delaware Bay—examining how tidal stress and boat activity impact local underwater habitats.  University of Delaware
  • Delaware Forest Service will celebrate Arbor Day on Friday, May 1 at Lewes Public Library by honoring 12 student winners and showcasing its effort to plant over 100,000 trees statewide; special guest Dan Lambe will join to emphasize the role of trees in boosting community + environmental well-being.  Deleware State Government

  • In November 2025, a local resident underwent Delaware’s new robotic Whipple procedure at ChristianaCare’s Helen F.
