  • Bishop William E. Koenig of the Diocese of Wilmington remembered Pope Francis for encouraging hope and service to the poor after he passed away on Easter Monday; he will hold a special Mass on April 28 at 12:10 p.m. at the Cathedral of St. Peter in Wilmington — the event will be livestreamed and open to the public.  Delaware Online

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • John Christiansen, 72, was struck by an SUV while riding his electric scooter in his driveway at Holloway Terrace around noon on April 19 and died at a hospital on April 20—police arrested 45-year-old Roland Fleming and charged him with Vehicular Assault and Driving Under the Influence after the SUV ran off West Avenue.  WDEL

  • On Thursday the Christina School Board voted 4—3 to name deputy superintendent Deirdra Joyner as the new superintendent after she accepts a formal offer and finalizes her contract. She previously served as chief academic officer and spoke at a public forum outlining plans to clarify roles between the board and the superintendent.  Spotlight Delaware

  • Delaware lawmakers are proposing a legislative package to shield immigrant families by limiting the sharing of DMV and school data with federal immigration officials—only allowing disclosure with a court order or attorney general approval. Rep. Jose Ortega said the measures aim to protect vulnerable residents amid ongoing concerns about federal overreach.  WHYY
  • A state judge placed the permit for the Edgemoor port expansion in limbo last week after ruling that the environmental review failed to consider key evidence—this setback delays the $635 million project expected to bring thousands of jobs while state officials work on new permit approvals amid board nomination disputes.  Spotlight Delaware
  • Delaware launched a new online dog licensing system that will help reunite lost pets through DocuPet—owners registering their dogs will receive a unique ID tag to quickly file lost or found pet reports.   • Today, the parking garage at the Leonard L. Williams Justice Center will only allow car access from Walnut Street until late June as drainage repairs close the main King Street entrance, while pedestrians use the King Street side.
