ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday at 8:24 p.m., emergency crews in Wilmington responded to a report that an 11-year-old boy was struck by a vehicle at the Maryland Avenue and Stroud Street intersection—he received emergency care at the scene before being taken to Nemours Children’s Hospital for further evaluation.  First State Update

ECONOMY NEWS

  • SEPTA will face a $213 million shortfall on July 1 and is proposing to cut 50 bus routes and suspend service on five Regional Rail lines—including the Wilmington-Newark line—which may cause property values to drop significantly. An economic impact analysis warns that these cuts could lead to nearly $20 billion in property devaluation, lower tax revenues and fewer jobs for local communities.  WHYY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • DNREC is seeking volunteers to help protect Delaware’s beach-nesting birds — including threatened piping plovers and endangered American oystercatchers — in a training session set for 10 a.m. to noon on May 3 at Cape Henlopen State Park’s Officers Club Mess Hall. Volunteers will learn to monitor nesting areas to reduce human disturbance and support the state's conservation efforts.  Deleware State Government

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting May 7, all travelers 18 and older will need a Real ID to fly on domestic flights, so Delaware residents should upgrade their drivers' licenses at a DMV office by bringing a birth certificate, social security proof, and two documents showing residency — the upgrade costs $20 and the new license displays a gold star to show compliance.  Delaware Online
  • Rep. Eric Morrison (D-Glasgow) sponsored a bill that would require home contractors to mediate disputes after written complaints and it passed the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday. The bill will go to the House Appropriations Committee in May and aims to curb home improvement fraud.  Spotlight Delaware
