  • Councilman James Spadola is urging DNREC to continue operating the Brandywine Farmers Market weekly at its Josephine Fountain site in Brandywine Park after a proposal suggests alternating weekends for parking and turf issues. He says keeping the market on its normal schedule supports small businesses and community ties.  Delaware Public Media

  • Today, Wawa offers free coffee to Rewards members to celebrate its 62nd anniversary at 1,200 locations. The event also includes $250,000 in gift cards for charity partners, reinforcing the annual Wawa Day tradition.  Delaware Online

  • Aubrey Plaza, a Wilmington native, will discuss her pregnancy and promote her animated series 'Kevin' on 'The View' today; the interview follows recent news of her baby bump, with her series debut on Prime Video April 20 + she is expecting her first child this fall.  Delaware Online
  • Lt. Governor Kyle Evans Gay invites Delaware K-12 students to submit original paintings, drawings, or photos on ‘Why I love Delaware’ for display at Dover and Wilmington offices; entries (one per student) are due by 11:59 p.m. Friday, May 22 and winners will be announced Monday, June 8.  Deleware State Government

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Red Clay School Board postponed plans to transform McKean High School into an innovation center for career-based programs for the 2027-28 school year after voting against the resolution on Wednesday (the district will now reexamine its academic approach).  WDEL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wilmington residents can sign up for a community solar program to reduce soaring bills as Dimension Energy (partnered with Ampion) plans to supply solar credits from 10 megawatts serving 2,500 homes.  WHYY
  • Delaware State Parks will host Earth Day hikes, cleanups and tree plantings in April at sites like Auburn Valley and Bellevue. The events celebrate 75 years of outdoor service and invite community members to protect the environment.  Deleware State Government
  • UD faculty celebrated Earth Month with breakthrough environmental research, using creative methods to reduce plastic waste and carbon emissions. Their projects were featured on April 15 at UD labs (a showcase of local green innovation).  University of Delaware

  • Good Morning Delaware highlights Black Maternal Health Week as new data shows 80% of maternal deaths are preventable. Dr. Meena Ramakrishnan (epidemiologist and commission member) will explain that risks like overdose and heart disease are being addressed while Medicaid now covers doula care for pregnant women and new mothers.  DETV
