ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Two people were injured in a near head-on crash at the intersection of Foulk and Naamans Road on April 10th, around 10:30 a.m.—one victim was briefly trapped in the vehicle and helped by Talleyville firefighters before being treated by New Castle County paramedics and taken to Christiana Hospital while DelDOT closed parts of the intersection for over an hour. - ➤ Wilmington police charged two men with first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Zaahir Thorton near a swing set in Brown-Burton Winchester Park on Aug. 28, 2023 — Nyzier Cannon-Wilson, 26, and Aaron Watson, 25, who were held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution, were indicted on March 31 and face gun and conspiracy charges. Delaware Online
- ➤ Emergency personnel responded at about 7:05 a.m. Thursday to ASPIRA Academy’s West Campus on Otts Chapel Road in Newark after an accidental firearm discharge injured a staff member’s leg—school officials confirmed that all students were safe and police continue the investigation. - ➤ Delaware lawmakers passed a bill out of committee that would restrict the DMV from sharing undocumented drivers' personal details with federal agencies—information can only be shared if the Attorney General or a court approves. The House Judiciary Committee advanced the measure despite concerns from the Department of Justice that it might provoke federal retribution. Spotlight Delaware
- ➤ The state Senate Executive Committee heard a House bill that would let terminally ill Delawareans end their lives by self-administering life-ending medication in a humane and dignified manner. The committee voted 7 to 2 — sending the bill to the Senate for a final vote, and if approved it will go to Gov. Matt Meyer's desk for his signature. Delaware Online
- ➤ Gov. Meyer delivered his first State of the State address on April 10th, urging lawmakers to pass new tax brackets for incomes at $125,000, $250,000 and $500,000 and to reform education funding, affordable healthcare and housing—efforts that now move to the legislature. Delaware Public Media
