COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Daylight saving time will start on March 8 at 2 a.m. when clocks move forward one hour in Wilmington + shift workers will see a seven-hour night pay as local bar rules remain unchanged.  Delaware Online

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On March 6, UD alumnus Brian Feuer delivered the Chaplin Tyler Executive Leadership Lecture at Blue Hen Innovation Fest at the university. He shared negotiation tactics from his McKinsey career (including high-stakes strategies) and encouraged students to prepare thoroughly and learn from experience.  University of Delaware
  • UD has been awarded a federal grant ($14.5 million) to launch a rail training program offering four-week summer sessions for undergraduates starting in 2027 at the Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo, Colorado. The project will also create a shared data resource to support rail industry research.  University of Delaware

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware Transit Corporation received a $14.3 million federal grant under the FY2026 Bus and Bus Facilities Program to fund a midlife rehabilitation for 51 buses, aiming to improve fleet reliability, extend lifespans, and save $7.4 million in future costs. Officials call the plan a high-return investment strategy.  WDEL
  • Delawareans and Pennsylvanians who filed their 2025 tax returns can track refunds through state portals (and the IRS tool for federal refunds) as tax season continues; federal refunds average about $3,742 and typically arrive about 21 days after processing.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware officials launched DTRN360 on Thursday to give behavioral health providers quick access to patient treatment history. The secure digital platform helps doctors + counselors, hospitals and crisis teams coordinate care to meet urgent needs.  WDEL

  • Today, 64 Delaware pizza shops kick off the Munch Madness tournament as readers begin voting for their favorite shop each week until only one remains. The contest runs through March 12 with each round cutting the field in half.  Delaware Online

  • Salesianum earned a rare win in Seaford on March 5 at Ben Sirman Gymnasium with a 53-38 score and will face William Penn in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. today, while Howard rallied with a 72-62 win over Tatnall and will host Cape Henlopen at the same time.  Delaware Online

  • Caravel and Salesianum secured spots in the DIAA Boys Basketball Quarterfinals after winning overtime against Middletown and a dominant 53-38 win over Seaford — the quarterfinal matchups begin at 2 p.m. today.  WDEL
