  • Local churches are hosting Lenten fish fries in March with events on March 6, 13, 20 and 27 offering dinner options from fried to baked fish at venues in Hockessin, Milltown and near Wilmington. CULTURE NEWS

  • University of Delaware students and faculty have been stitching a three-foot by four-foot tapestry panel celebrating America’s 250th anniversary; the project required about 1600 hours of work and is now showcased (at the Fashion and Apparel Studies department) as all thirteen colony panels will be completed by April 30.  Delaware Public Media
  • Comedian Colin Quinn will perform live at The Baby Grand (the intimate theater inside the Grand Opera House) on Friday, March 27 at 8:00 p.m., promising an evening of smart comedy. Tickets are on sale now.  Delaware LIVE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Delaware Professor Gary T. Henry explained that Delaware’s funding model, based on student headcount (not extra support needs), creates imbalances between wealthier and poorer districts. He said a hybrid model would add funding based on need, which could improve teacher retention and student achievement.  University of Delaware
  • Delaware Lt. Gov Kyle Evans Gay and Education Secretary Cindy Marten visited four elementary schools on Monday, March 2 to celebrate 302 Day by engaging fourth graders in hands-on civics activities as part of an $8.7 million federal grant initiative that supports stronger civic learning + fuels future leadership.  Deleware State Government

  • Delaware law prohibits pets & emotional support animals from entering grocery stores, and inspectors will cite retailers who allow any animals in food-handling areas; only task-trained service dogs for people with disabilities are allowed under state and federal rules updated in 2018.  Delaware Online

  • Delaware Tourism announced that ticket sales for the official FIFA World Cup 2026 watch parties will begin on March 5 at 9 a.m. – Fans can join events across the state in June and at Delaware Stadium for the final on July 19.  Deleware State Government
