COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Do More 24 returns with a 24-hour donation marathon running from 6 p.m. March 5 until 6 p.m. March 6 that will support 400 nonprofits across Delaware; parts of the event are hosted from Chancery Market in Wilmington and Cinema Arts Theater in Lewes (nonprofit leaders stress urgent community support).  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new photo feature displays historic lighthouses that have guided mariners over decades, including the Mispillion Light and Harbor of Refuge in Delaware Bay, highlighting images from as far back as the 1970s (a window into the state’s industrial past).  Delaware Online
  • The Queen in Wilmington is set to host The Rock Orchestra on Saturday at 8 p.m. for a performance of Lynyrd Skynyrd hits while music director Joe Trainor promises an authentic sound that uses real horns rather than synthesized effects.  WDEL
  • The Delaware Tourism Office announced watch parties for FIFA World Cup 2026 this summer across the state (with a final celebration at UD Stadium in Newark); tickets go on sale March 5 and a pep rally is planned for May at DE Turf in Frederica.  DETV

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Delmarva Power will raise electric bills for Standard Offer Service customers by about 7% starting June 1, adding roughly $11 monthly on an average bill — the increase is due solely to higher wholesale prices passed through to customers.  Delaware LIVE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UD earned a STARS Silver rating from AASHE for improvements in sustainability including waste reduction and increased bus ridership. The university will launch new initiatives (including the My Green Lab program) this year to build on its 2020 Bronze rating.  University of Delaware
  • The University of Delaware restored its anti-racism research website (UDARI) in February after it was removed last summer, a decision that students and researchers say disrupted academic freedom and trust. Officials called the mistake and promised improved oversight to protect digital research access.  WHYY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A developing nor'easter is forecast to hit Delaware later this week, bringing 1 to 6 inches of snow starting Sunday, Feb. 22 and continuing into Monday, Feb. 23. Residents in New Castle, Kent and Sussex counties are advised to prepare by stocking up on supplies + checking weather updates.  Delaware Online

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware National Guard was celebrated Thursday at the Major Joseph R. 'Beau' Biden III National Guard/Reserve Center near New Castle, where the Chamber of Commerce honored two veteran-friendly businesses. Major General James Benson said the Guard will secure 250th anniversary national events and is hiring.  WDEL
  • The Delaware Department of Human Resources and Labor will host a career fair on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at Paul M. Hodgson Vocational Technical High School in Newark. Students, job seekers, and program participants will learn about state internships, apprenticeships, and career pathways with public access starting at 3:30 p.m.  Deleware State Government

  • At the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center, oncology social worker Sarah Gabriel was named Social Worker of the Year by Bringing Hope Home for easing financial strain for families during cancer treatment.
