  • Bramie Lenhoff, UD's Allan P. Colburn Professor of Chemical Engineering, was elected to the National Academy of Engineering for his advances in protein purification technologies.   • DETV has launched Lights, Camera, Learn!, a 12-week after-school program that gives Wilmington students ages 11–14 hands-on STEM and media training. Classes run Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM starting Feb. 25 (spots are limited).  DETV
  • Honors nursing students at UD used design thinking to pitch a healthcare vending machine for providing essential products 24/7 in campus residence halls — they won second place at Blue Hen Innovation Fest on Feb. 16 and will work with Student Health and Wellbeing to repurpose existing machines.  University of Delaware

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Delaware City refinery has appealed its orders to install new air monitors and pay a $300,000 fine for hazardous emissions in spring 2025. Appeals will be reviewed by the Environmental Appeals Board as DNREC works to advance statewide fenceline monitoring regulations.  Spotlight Delaware

  • Former state Sen. George Bunting, who represented Sussex County for nearly 30 years after winning his first election by only 50 votes, died Tuesday. Governor Matt Meyer said he was known for building consensus — serving veterans and schools, leaving a legacy of dedicated public service.  WDEL
  • Last week, Governor Matt Meyer presented the Order of the First State to five Delawareans recognized for their impact in public service, medicine, the arts, and athletics in Dover, highlighting their lasting contributions to local communities.  Deleware State Government
  • State senators are discussing plans to restart the power plant in Dagsboro (after 68 years of service) that closed last February to boost grid reliability amid rising electricity demand, with a potential shift to natural gas.  WDEL
