COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Work continues on a new terminal at Wilmington Airport after photos from Feb. 5 showed seating with charging stations and a sign for American Airlines' shuttle to Philadelphia International Airport on U.S. 13 near New Castle. The development will support enhanced travel options for local passengers.  Delaware Online

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Incyte will sell its Bracebridge I and III buildings in downtown Wilmington to Buccini/Pollin Group, with the sale expected to close in the first quarter. The biotech firm will lease about 80,000 sqft now and remain involved with the project (a change that may prompt a review of state subsidies).  Delaware LIVE
  • Daedalus Aviation said it will not proceed with a hangar lease at Wilmington Airport amid activist and state lawmakers’ concerns over its federal contracts. The Delaware River and Bay Authority noted it will continue pursuing more aeronautical users to support airport growth (ILG) while complying with state and federal rules.  First State Update

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Delaware schools rely on a mix of funding from the state operating budget (65%), capital improvements, local property taxes, and federal aid to total about $2.1–2.2 billion annually, as explained in the Civics 101 series which shows how these varied sources meet the schools' diverse needs.  Spotlight Delaware
  • Delaware announced a Future in the Arts celebration set for Tuesday, May 12 at 6:00 p.m. at the Smyrna Opera House — the event will honor graduating seniors planning to study arts and requires registration by March 23.  Deleware State Government

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • UD researchers reported on Feb. 11 that directly applying the beneficial bacterium UD1022 on turfgrass leaves reduced dollar spot severity by 43.6% (a promising tool for sustainable management of athletic fields, golf courses, and lawns).  University of Delaware

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Philadelphia Pike is closed from Princeton Avenue to Governor Printz Boulevard — detours are in effect for the funeral of New Castle County Police Detective Christopher N. Skrobot at Holy Rosary Church at 3200 Philadelphia Pike in Claymont from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.  New Castle County Police Department
  • Delaware explains how it funds early childhood education by shifting funds, using one-time money, or raising new revenue (methods that highlight trade-offs with other services). Gov. Matt Meyer's proposal to add $50 million a year is one example; Lt. Gov. Kyle Evans Gay previously found $30 million through budget reallocation.  Spotlight Delaware

HEALTH NEWS

  • Delaware leaders passed House Concurrent Resolution 82 to direct the Behavioral Health Consortium to develop a report mapping the state’s perinatal mental health care system. The report will help fix data gaps, workforce shortages, and care inequities, with a final version due Dec. 1.  WDEL
