COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Humane Animal Partners of Delaware in Wilmington is hosting the Great American Rescue Bowl today through Super Bowl Sunday with reduced adoption fees for adult cats and dogs now at $60 and puppies and kittens at a $60 discount; all animals are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated.  6abc

CULTURE NEWS

  • Delaware’s Poetry Out Loud State Finals will occur on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Smyrna Opera House at 6:00 p.m., where 10 student finalists compete for state champion honors, National Finals advancement, and a share of $50,000 in awards plus stipends at this free event with limited seating.  Deleware State Government

ECONOMY NEWS

  • On Feb. 9, the Delaware Tourism Office awarded funding to seven sports facilities through the Sports Tourism Capital Investment Fund to upgrade venues and boost the local economy in New Castle, Sussex and Kent counties - projects include improvements at Chase Fieldhouse, DE Turf and Dover Motor Speedway.  WITN

  • Holly Grove Christian School announced second-quarter honor rolls for all grades in its 2025-26 school year, recognizing students with separate Principal’s and Honor Roll lists. The school celebrated academic achievement with individual listings for each grade.  Bay to Bay News
  • Five UD students broke a record by earning Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarships to study abroad in Budapest, Costa Rica & Japan. They will begin their overseas programs this summer and fall to gain work experience and learn from new cultures.  University of Delaware
  • Delaware libraries celebrated the 2026 Blue Hen Book Award winners on Monday, Feb. 9. The awards in five categories were given to boost literacy among children and teens as the libraries marked 125 years of service.  Deleware State Government

  • Chrysler, Toyota, and BMW announced recalls for vehicles with issues in trailer modules, door switches, and engine starters+ dealers will repair them free while owner notifications are expected in March. Delaware customers can visit local dealerships in Wilmington for service.  Delaware Online

HEALTH NEWS

  • Don and Jeanne Keister founded atTAcK Addiction in Newark after their son Tyler died from an overdose in Dec. 2012. They will hand over nonprofit leadership to Dawn Hess-Fischer as the group continues to shape state laws on addiction and provide recovery housing statewide.  WHYY
  • Beebe Healthcare in Lewes placed a physician on administrative leave on Feb. 8 after disturbing social media posts were found — the provider is barred from seeing patients pending a full investigation.  Bay to Bay News

  • Installed on Jan. 15 at Wild Quail Golf & Country Club in Wyoming, Denise Forman Gaines — the first Black woman president of the Delaware Association of Realtors — said she will work with policymakers to expand housing supply for essential workers amid affordability challenges.  Bay to Bay News
