CULTURE NEWS

  • Terrie Lynne stars as Daisy in the Delaware-based comedy film The Conspiracists, which was shot locally and features strong ties to the local arts scene (including Delaware natives on the production team). The film is now available via Amazon Prime and Verizon.  Delaware LIVE
  • The Delaware Public Archives will host its First Saturday Program on Saturday, Feb. 7 at 10:30 a.m. to explore Black family history research, giving community members a chance to connect with their heritage.  Deleware State Government

  • According to TIME Magazine analysis, the University of Delaware ranks as one of the world’s Top Universities based on academic performance, innovation and global engagement— with the print ranking scheduled for publication on Feb. 20.  University of Delaware

  • Wilmington Public Works crews are still clearing 200 miles of streets five days after a major winter storm dumped 7–10 inches of snow Sunday. The city launched a new website (with a live snow plow tracker) to prioritize removal near hospitals, school zones, and major roads this weekend.  WDEL
  • According to the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, some residents who must meet ABAWD work reporting risk losing SNAP benefits if they fail to verify information or secure an exemption by February 1; affected individuals should contact their case manager or call the SNAP assistance line at 1+866-843-7212.  DETV

HEALTH NEWS

  • UD professor Lisha Shao discovered a neural network in fruit fly brains that determines food reward. The Jan. 29 study found that flies adjust eating based on need - clues that may help researchers understand eating disorders.  University of Delaware
