CULTURE NEWS

  • During Monday's Tournament of Champions episode of Jeopardy, a question about Delaware's Civil War role highlighted how DuPont once produced key gunpowder for the Union along the Brandywine River north of Wilmington; contestants struggled to answer correctly and one was eliminated after a loss.  WDEL
  • A new list of the Most Famous Living Delawareans spotlights local talent by featuring Delaware natives from film, sports, and the arts. The feature celebrates contributions from well-known actors, athletes, and cultural icons across the state.  Delaware Online

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Department of Labor reported that the number of unemployed workers increased by 8,300 (45%) from December 2024 to ’25, sparking economic concerns among local job seekers.  Bay to Bay News

  • A cold weather advisory is in effect from Monday night through Wednesday night as wind chills in Wilmington drop to near minus 10, and a 15% to 25% chance of more snow exists this weekend; residents should dress warmly *and be prepared*.  Delaware Online

  • Wilmington City Councilmember Christian Willauer will present a resolution at the Health, Environmental, Aging and Disabilities Committee meeting Wednesday to restore the Rodney Reservoir community garden by adding 40 beds (up from 20) for the 2026 gardening season, as local volunteers stand ready to help.  Delaware Public Media
  • Wilm Fire Chief John Looney joined Good Morning Delaware today to share winter storm safety tips and advise residents to avoid icy roads & secure their homes as weather worsens.  DETV
  • Governor Matthew Meyer announced changes to Delaware's driving restrictions effective 10:00 a.m. as Winter Storm Fern brings sleet and freezing rain. Kent and New Castle now have Level 1 warnings (travel only for essential needs) while Sussex County's warning is lifted; motorists are urged to drive cautiously on icy roads.  Deleware State Government

HEALTH NEWS

  • After a winter storm left nearly 8 inches of snow by 10:30 a.m. in northern Wilmington, healthcare experts urge residents to push snow and wear proper footwear while clearing sidewalks to prevent injuries and potential heart attacks.  WDEL
  • On Saturday, Jan. 24, police responded to a missed check call at Parkview Apartments when an 83-year-old woman fell and could not reach her phone (Emergency Medical Services then transported her to a hospital for treatment).  New Castle County Police Department
