COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local hardware stores Action Hardware and Wagner Hardware shared advice on safe ways to melt ice and snow on Thursday, Jan. 22 to help residents protect their properties.  Delaware Online

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Delaware Division of the Arts announced that 27 Delaware artists, including Wilmington’s Master Fellow Dennis Beach, received 2026 Individual Artist Fellowships totaling $184,000, with grants from $5,000 to $12,000 that require a public exhibition or performance next year.  Delaware LIVE

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lawmakers unveiled a three-tier funding formula on Jan. 21 at a joint Education Committee meeting in Wilmington; the model lets schools reallocate state funds to cover staff, operations, and special student needs, and a spring budget proposal will be based on the plan.  Delaware Public Media
  • The Delaware Forest Service will host its 11th annual Arborist and Tree Care Seminar on Feb. 23-24 at Winterthur Museum, Garden & Library (5105 Kennett Pike) where tree care professionals will learn best practices in classroom and hands-on sessions; registration is open until Feb. 22.  Deleware State Government

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Wilmington should prepare for a severe winter storm with heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain expected from Saturday night through Monday. A cold weather advisory runs tomorrow morning with wind chills dropping to minus 8 so commuters are urged to take extra precautions.  Delaware Online
  • A major winter storm is set to hit Delaware on Sunday and Monday. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Watch from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Monday, and forecasts predict 6-12 inches of snow across Delmarva (over a foot in northern areas) before colder air arrives.  WDEL
  • The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for Delaware starting Saturday night, Jan. 24 through Monday, Jan. 26. Heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain may cause dangerously slippery roads on Sunday and Monday morning, so residents should prepare for difficult travel.  Delaware Online

  • The Delaware State Chamber of Commerce approved new board directors and governors effective Jan. 1, 2026, naming four business and education leaders while longtime members shift roles. The organization also honored Andrew Cottone III as Board Member of the Year.  Delaware LIVE
