- ➤ Families can honor MLK Day by joining the annual Clean Up, Peace March, and Celebration at MSK Community Center (on the West Side) or by visiting YMCA open houses with kid-friendly activities at local branches, all free to attend. Delaware LIVE
- ➤ Three Spotlight Delaware reporters discussed the making of a five-part series on homelessness (developed in late 2025) during a recent podcast with Director of Community Engagement David Stradley. - ➤ Macy's will close 14 stores in 2026 as part of its Bold New Chapter strategy to drive long-term growth, and its two Delaware locations at Christiana and Concord Mall are not on the list. The plan was announced in January. Delaware Online

- ➤ The Delaware Tourism Office & Delaware Restaurant Association will host a film premiere event for ‘Back of House’ on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at Chase Center on the Riverfront from 4 – 6 p.m. Tickets cost $30 and tastings by local chefs will accompany the screening. Deleware State Government
- ➤ A photo series highlights Delaware's evolving landscape through side-by-side comparisons of familiar sites in Wilmington + Rehoboth and beyond. The images, dating from vintage snapshots to recent scenes, let locals compare the state's past and present. Delaware Online
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UD Botanic Gardens’ curator Andrew Adams (a UD 2017 alum) leads plant curation and mentors student interns who began as interns at the gardens; he is managing an inventory of 3,000 species and will curate new plantings on the Townsend East Lawn and Garden later this year. University of Delaware
- ➤ The University of Delaware community showcased academic achievements on Jan. 16 with new federal grants, research presentations, and peer-reviewed publications. The Delaware Department of Education received an $8.7M grant for literacy projects & UD faculty shared research on topics including civic education & soft diplomacy. University of Delaware
- ➤ Gov. Matt Meyer nominated longtime education adviser Jon Sheehan as president of the State Board of Education on Thursday. His nomination is pending Senate confirmation as the board prepares to review a school boundary proposal from the Redding Consortium in northern New Castle County. Delaware LIVE

- ➤ The Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control closed Indian River Bay to clam and mussel harvest after a sewage release raised contamination concerns—affecting local seafood operations. Bay to Bay News
