- ➤ Avelo is cutting four routes from Wilmington Airport and canceling planned flights to Chicago and Atlanta as part of its restructuring plan. The airline expects its Wilmington base (with 100 crew members) to stay stable. Delaware Online

- ➤ Rap legend Kwame will join Wilmington Public Library’s Living Legends Speaker Series on Feb. 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. at 10 E. 10th St for a free conversation and concert — moderated by local figures Oya Grand G and Hezekiah. Delaware Online
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ UD physics professor Spencer Axani unveiled CosmicWatch, a low-cost, portable particle detector that tracks muons and now aids students + researchers in studying cosmic phenomena. The upgraded device collects data faster and withstands high radiation, and it is being used in international experiments and local classrooms. University of Delaware
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Delaware released an updated Climate Action Plan that aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and reported a 24% decrease in emissions from 2005 to 2021 + a projected 54% drop by 2050 with clean energy and EV support. - ➤ Delaware 250 completed its final grant cycle — awarding an extra $20,000 and a total of $334,000 to 47 organizations across all counties to fund cultural, educational and preservation projects for the 250th anniversary celebrations. Deleware State Government
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new analysis by the State Health Access Data Assistance Center shows Delaware workers faced the steepest increase in job-based health insurance costs as family premiums jumped over $5,800 from 2023 to 2024, while deductibles also rose sharply. Delaware Online
- ➤ Dan Sweeney, a UD master’s graduate, partnered with atTAcK addiction at its resource center in Bear last summer to gather community stories for new print and digital materials, and he will continue his recovery research in the fall to help reduce stigma + support positive change. - ➤ The Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter launched a free Brain Health Habit Builder that lets Delaware residents check daily habits and generate a personalized plan in 3-5 minutes.
